What is the difference between the Usimi and the Hadrami Sidr Honey?

Both Sidr Honeys are from Yemen, but one is harvested from Hadramout and the other from Usimate; hence the names are Hadrami and Usimi. When it comes to taste and qualities, the difference is very slim between them, yet it is important to note that Usimate is a high altitude and mostly green region, and Hadramout is a low altitude and mostly dry (desert-like).

The main difference between these two products is that we pack the Usimi Sidr honey jar with honeycomb chunks; so if you love honeycomb, you might enjoy Usimi jar more, but if you enjoy your honey pure, then you can stick to the Hadrami jar :)

Other than this, both are very special when it comes to taste and both are known for their potent therapeutic qualities!

Why the color and texture varies from one order to other?

Our beekeepers follow the best practices of traditional beekeeping. Among these methods is restraining their bees from any supplemental feeding during and right before the Sidr season. Thus, any environmental fluctuations on the region get directly reflected on the honey produced. In addition to that, we don’t process or alter our harvested honey in any way. For these reasons, there will be always some variations in the color, taste, aroma and texture of our Sidr honey from harvest to harvest; however, we guarantee that you always will get the best quality of Sidr honey at all times!

Our hope that our customers would appreciate these natural variations between each harvest, and look at it as an element of surprise and change to this unique honey!

How do you ensure the quality of your Sidr honey?

We have several procedures to ensure sourcing only the highest quality of the Yemeni Sidr Honey. It all starts from our local beekeepers; our beekeepers are carefully selected and empowered. We deal with our beekeepers as partners, and we support them to follow the best traditional practices of beekeeping which guarantees the highest quality of Sidr honey. Our beekeepers are very experienced and know how to take care of their hives, bees, and honey.

What makes our mission possible amid the challenges in Yemen is our laser-focus on the Sidr honey despite the fact that Yemen is full of other types of fine honey. We are in the ground in Yemen, next to the local beekeepers, vetting every batch of harvested Sidr honey and only accepting the top-quality ones. We are handling our product from the bottom of the supply chain, all the way to our customers. No one else except us handle our honey to ensure that no fraud occur at any stage of this whole cycle and that our customers always get the real deal. We believe that the legacy of this unique honey and the lives of our beekeepers and their families depend on the quality of honey we source and supply to our customers!

Why your Yemeni Sidr honey is so expensive?

There are many factors for the high prices, but simply put: very limited supply and very high demand. The average Sidr honey production per beehive for Sidr honey is significantly less than any other honey. On the other hand, the known therapeutic and cosmetic qualities, the historical legacy, and the distinct taste of Sidr honey are all reasons that are driving the unending demand.

Despite these forces, we strive to keep our prices as low as possible, while being able to immensely reward our local beekeepers and cover our high-operation costs in safely exporting our honey from Yemen to our global shipping point in the US.

Is your honey 100% natural and organic?

Our honey is 100% natural and raw. No chemicals used, no liquid-sugar used to feed the bees during the Sidr season. Best strict traditional beekeeping methods are practiced. And yes it is organic, but due to lack of organizations in Yemen that can generate an organic certification, we don’t label it as such.

When do you harvest your honey?

We harvest our honey during the winter season only, which is the main Sidr season that produce the top-quality Sidr honey!

Where are your bees located?

Our beekeepers are mainly located in two regions in Yemen, Hadramout (low altitude, desert-like) and Usimat (high altitude, mostly green). Both regions are covered by Sidr trees (Ziziphus spina-christi) and both regions are known to produce the best Sidr honey in the entire country and the world!

Does the Sidr honey expire?

Just like any raw honey, if Sidr Honey is properly stored, it can stay in good and safe condition for eternity! Proper storing practices have an essential part of the shelf life of any honey. We recommend storing your honey in cool places and away from direct light. For practical purposes, we give our honey a shelf life of two years.
