High quality raw honey, especially therapeutic grade honey, contains a wide array of health benefits. Our wise ancestors used this “liquid gold” both as food and medicine. The honey is a powerful antioxidant whose beneficial plant compounds provide support for various health problems such as fungal infections, chronic sinusitis, aging, respiratory problems, digestive obstructions, and damaged skin.

Here are 6 recipes of homemade honey-based remedies that will help you combat any of the aforementioned health issues:

  • Honey as antibiotic
Honey contains hydrogen peroxide which accounts for its antibacterial properties. Also, it contains a lot of sugar which prevents the further growth of some types of bacteria. Moreover, honey has a low pH level that extracts moisture from the bacteria, dehydrates it and discards it.
Use: Apply a small quantity of honey directly to the wound or the infected area. In case of internal infections, ingest a tablespoon of honey to aid in the treatment or stir it into a warm cup of herbal tea.
  • Honey for chronic sinusitis (honey + lemon)

The key strategy in fighting this disease is maintaining a strong immune system that will contend with bacteria and prevent further sinus infections. This is where honey takes the lead! Daily consumption of honey boosts the immunity and keeps the sinus infections away. A number of studies have already shown that honey is quite effective in the fight against nose and throat infections, including a sore throat. The honey fights throat bacteria and relieves the throat from coughing, inflammation, and soreness. The lemon, on the other hand, is one of honey’s best comrades that is a powerhouse of vitamin C and an equally strong immunity booster and antibacterial.
Use: Take 1 tbsp of raw honey and 2 tsp of freshly squeezed lemon juice. Mix these ingredients. Warm the concoction. Consume it after each meal to eradicate mucus and prevent infection.
