Carbon tetrachloride is the standard laboratory way to cause reliable, measurable organ damage. Testing a protective effect against it is a recognised method rather than an improvised one.
This was published in a peer-reviewed open-access journal by a university pharmacognosy department, which puts it on firmer footing than much of the Sidr literature.
Like the stomach study, the honey was eaten rather than applied — the route that actually matters for a food.
What this study does not show
- Rats, not people, and no human trial has followed.
- Carbon tetrachloride poisoning is not a condition anyone encounters at a breakfast table. The model is a laboratory tool, not a real-world scenario.
- The honey was Saudi Sidr, not Yemeni. They are closely related but not the same harvest.
- Protecting against a specific chemical insult says nothing about general organ health.
